Junior Field Hockey Programs
The Toronto Field Hockey Club offers a number of field hockey programs for students. We offer both outdoor field hockey programs and indoor programs. Our programs are designed for beginners, recreational athletes and those who would like to play at a competitive level:
- Outdoor field hockey skill development programs on
artificial surface (Dol Turf) at Lamport Stadium and Birchmount Stadium in the spring and summer view programs
- Indoor field hockey skill development programs (fall and winter)
- Indoor field hockey club league from January to March
- Outdoor field hockey club league from May to July (games mainly played at Lamport Stadium)
- Junior tournaments for both Indoor and Outdoor field hockey in the Toronto area
- More competitive tournaments in Toronto and other cities such as Montreal and Ottawa
For athletes who want to play field hockey at a competitive level, the TFHC has an excellent history of developing players who have played for Canada and Ontario at all age levels (U16, U18, U21 and Senior). A large number of students from the TFHC have gone on to receive scholarships in the US and get an education at fine institutions such as Harvard, Princeton, Boston College and Ohio State. Athletes who get selected to the Canadian National Team program receive financial benefits that include the cost of post-secondary school education.
TFHC's junior programs are conducted by head coach, Peter D'Cruz. Peter has a well earned reputation as a coach for developing field hockey athletes that display a high degree of technical skill and tactical awareness, and for producing teams that win championships at all levels and age groups. Peter's Ontario provincial teams won many outdoor and indoor championships at U21 and Senior (Men) and Senior (Women) from 1985 to 1997. He has developed and coached numerous men and women that have played field hockey for Canada. Peter coached the Canadian Men's U21 team in 1990. Peter served as a member of Field Hockey Canada's Men's National Team Committee from 2001 to 2004.
"Peter D'Cruz is a thorough teacher of the game with the ability to instruct a team or individual to reach their potential. His understanding of fundamentals and the application of skills to the game is the highest that I have come across. Peter helped me to develop my understanding of the game and continually improve my skills throughout my successful playing career".
